Usage of the social posting website and app Bluesky took off like a rocket in November, as the once obscure alternative to X / Twitter attracted writers, speakers, and influencers looking for a new online home — and taking many of their followers with them. OP’s David F. Carr, who was the club’s founding President, led a special workshop on why Bluesky is worth creating an account on and exploring.
Although the X-odus from X was fueled partly by politics — Elon Musk’s close association with Donald Trump and the perceived algorithmic bias of X — that’s not the only thing that makes Bluesky interesting. Bluesky is on the verge of overtaking Meta’s Threads as the favored alternative to X because of other desirable qualities for filtering content and building community. Speakers and leaders who establish a presence there now have an opportunity to help shape their own personal and professional networks.
To join Bluesky and/or connect with Toastmasters on the platform, see David’s Starter Pack of recommended accounts. If you would like to be added to the list, message David from your new Bluesky account.
Below, we’ve included the replay of just the workshop, as well as the full meeting (including Table Topics impromptu speaking practice).
